Join us on our Community Farm for a hike on the 1.5-mile Discovery Trail! The hike will be led by Chris Link, SAHC’s Community Farm and Food Associate. He will begin by providing a bit of background about the farm and its conservation history. Along the trail you will have a chance to view wildlife that may be in the area as well as learn about the various projects underway at the farm.
You will hike by Second Spring Market Garden, which is a part of our Beginning Farmer Incubator Program. After crossing through a forested area, we will reach our 25-acre Stream Restoration Project. The trail then climbs uphill towards our Shortleaf Pine Reforestation Project area before reaching an overlook with an amazing view of the property. From here, you may see some of the Piney Woods cattle, a rare heritage breed, that belong to our other incubator farm program, Sparrow Hill Farm. As we complete the trail loop, you may get a closer look at the cattle as we return through another forested area. Throughout the hike you will be able to ask any questions you may have about the farm, so come ready to learn!
Registration is open — sign up today! Please RSVP by emailing Haley Smith at Haley@appalachian.org.
